PROCESS
In a team of four students, I performed comprehensive user experience and usability
evaluation of GMM service, as experienced on Blackberry 8310 mobile phone. We first de-
constructed the system into a Generalized Transition Network (Interaction Flow Map) to
understand the details of interactions. We then used following evaluation methods to
uncover the usability problems, and recommend solutions:
- User interviews
- Personas and Scenarios
- Competitive analysis
- Surveys
- Heuristic Evaluation
- Vocabulary and Visual Analysis
Sample Finding
Mapped keys are not revealed in the system navigation.
Proposed Solution: Show mapped keys in the main menu section to the right of the menu
option. This will makes the mapped keys readily apparent to the user. Use the convention
for indicating keys (a small gray box around the character) already employed throughout the
interface. Revise the wording, or add menu items, where necessary.

OVERVIEW
Google Maps for Mobile (GMM) delivers interactive mapping on mobile phones.
Users can search for map features by category, location or colloquial name,
and browse results that include location, phone number, and reviews. The goal
was to understand GMM users, and perform comprehensive evaluation of the
application to uncover usability problems, along with recommendations for
improvement .
